Coffee Machine repair
Quick answer

Premium coffee machines - Sage, DeLonghi, Gaggia, Jura - are almost always worth repairing. A machine that cost £400–£1,500 is generally worth a pump, boiler or seal repair. The most common faults are scale build-up (preventable with regular descaling), pump failure and worn O-rings. Pod machines and budget bean-to-cup machines costing under £150 are generally not worth repairing - parts availability is poor and the economics rarely work.

Fault Diagnosis

Common Coffee Machine Faults We Fix

The most frequent coffee machine faults our engineers see in Colchester and North Essex homes. Most are diagnosed and repaired on the first visit.

1

Not Brewing / Weak Coffee

Usually scale build-up in the boiler or group head, or a failing pump. Descale services and pump replacements are our most common coffee machine jobs.

2

Steam Wand Not Working

Blocked steam nozzle or solenoid valve failure. Often cleared with a thorough service — or a valve replacement if damaged.

3

Leaking Water

Worn O-rings, cracked group head gasket or failed boiler seal. Sealing kits are available for most Sage, DeLonghi and Gaggia machines.

4

Grinder Not Working

Blocked grinder chamber, worn burrs or failed grinder motor. We service and repair grinders on all bean-to-cup machines.

5

Machine Not Heating

Boiler element, thermostat or NTC sensor failure. Boiler repairs are a speciality — we carry boiler kits for Sage and DeLonghi.

6

Error Codes / Flashing Lights

Modern machines indicate specific faults via LED codes. We decode and diagnose errors from all major brands.

7

Pump Failure

Vibe pump or rotary pump failure — no pressure, weak extraction. Pump replacement is a common repair we carry parts for.

8

Won't Turn On

PCB, power switch or thermal cutout. We diagnose before advising on whether board replacement is worth the cost.

Honest Advice

Repair or Replace Your Coffee Machine?

Premium coffee machines are almost always worth repairing. A Sage Barista Express or DeLonghi Dinamica is a significant purchase, and a pump or boiler repair extends its life by years for a fraction of replacement cost. We are specialist in Sage, DeLonghi and Gaggia repairs and carry a comprehensive stock of spares - see our service fees at /services/repair-costs.php.

Repair makes sense when…
  • Sage, DeLonghi, Gaggia or Jura machine — replacement costs £300–£1,500+
  • Pump, O-ring or group head gasket failure — inexpensive parts
  • Regular service and descale (prevents most serious faults)
  • Under 8 years old
Consider replacing when…
  • PCB failure on a machine under warranty — claim the warranty first
  • Physical damage to the boiler housing beyond economic repair
  • Very old entry-level pod machine with no parts availability

Honest Repair Advice — Even When Repair Is Not Worth It

We are not here to sell repairs at any cost. We will tell you when an appliance is better replaced, when a part is likely to be uneconomical, and when a simple reset or maintenance step may solve the issue without a visit.

We do not repair gas appliances.
We do not recommend repairs when replacement makes better financial sense.
We do not fit cheap parts that are likely to fail quickly.
We do not pretend to give a final price before diagnosis.
We always explain the likely repair path and cost before work begins.
We will always explain whether repair or replacement makes better financial sense before carrying out paid repair work.

If, after we've attended and diagnosed the fault, no repair goes ahead, a reduced diagnostic fee applies instead of the full service fee - see our pricing for the exact amounts.

Common Questions

Coffee Machine Repair FAQ

Is my Sage / DeLonghi coffee machine worth repairing?

Almost certainly. These machines cost £400–£1,500 new and are built to a standard where quality repairs are worthwhile. Sage machines in particular are designed to be serviced — parts are well-supported. DeLonghi and Gaggia machines also have good parts availability. We repair all of these brands regularly.

My coffee machine is not making water flow through. What is wrong?

The most common cause of no water flow is scale build-up in the boiler or pump circuit. Try a descale cycle first if the machine supports it — it resolves a significant proportion of no-flow calls. If descaling does not help, the pump has likely failed or there is a blockage that needs engineer attention.

My coffee machine needs descaling but the cycle is not working. Can you help?

Yes — a manual descale and service is one of our most common coffee machine jobs. We flush the boiler circuit, clean the group head, replace worn O-rings and test throughput. A thorough service often resolves multiple issues at once.

Do you repair pod machines (Nespresso, Tassimo)?

We can diagnose pod machine faults but we are honest with you upfront: entry-level pod machines costing under £100 are rarely worth the cost of a repair visit. If you have a higher-end Nespresso Vertuo or De'Longhi pod machine, repair may make sense — call us to discuss.

How much does a coffee machine repair cost?

We charge one fixed service fee per visit - Standard £79 (target attendance within 3 working days), Priority £99 (within 2 working days) or Urgent £119 (by the next working day). It covers travel, diagnosis and all labour for the same repair; parts are quoted separately and approved before ordering, and no VAT is added. See our full pricing and 6-month guarantee at /services/repair-costs.php.

Can you attend the same day?

Same-day attendance may occasionally be possible depending on the fault and our schedule, but it is not a guaranteed or standard service. Choose the tier - Standard, Priority or Urgent - that matches the attendance target you need.
