Why does my oven clock flash after a power cut?

Why does my fan run but the oven does not heat?

If the cooling fan or circulation fan runs but there is no heat, the cause is usually one of: clock not fully set or in auto mode; failed fan heating element; faulty thermostat; or a selector switch fault. The cooling fan runs regardless of whether the oven is cooking - it is not a reliable indicator that the oven is functioning correctly. If clock and manual mode checks don't resolve it, the oven likely needs an engineer.

Where is my oven model number?

In the vast majority of built-in ovens, the model number (also called E-Nr or Model No.) is printed on a rating plate inside the oven door frame. Open the door fully and look on the top or side edge. On freestanding cookers, it may also be on the back panel or behind the lower storage drawer. Take a photo of this label before calling an engineer.

Should I reset the power at the fuse board?

If your oven has tripped the circuit breaker or RCD, do not simply reset it and try again without investigation. A tripping oven indicates a component fault - usually a shorted heating element or wiring issue. Repeatedly resetting a tripping circuit can be unsafe. Switch the oven circuit off at the fuse board and book an engineer to diagnose the fault before using the oven again.

When should I stop trying and call an engineer?

Stop trying DIY fixes and call an engineer if: the oven trips the electrics; the display is completely blank; there is a burning smell; the oven sparks; an error code appears and does not clear; buttons are physically broken or unresponsive; or the oven heats then immediately shuts off. These symptoms indicate a component fault that requires professional diagnosis.
