6 Things That Will Keep It Running for 15 Years
The Bosch Series 6 is built to last - but how you use and maintain it matters. These are the care habits our engineers recommend to every customer.
Salt softens the water inside the machine, protecting the internal components from limescale. Without it, the heater element, spray arms and internal pipework fur up. Rinse aid prevents water spots and aids drainage - low rinse aid strains the drying cycle unnecessarily.
The filter at the bottom of the dishwasher catches food debris that would otherwise recirculate and block the pump. A clogged filter is the single most avoidable cause of "not cleaning properly" call-outs. It takes two minutes to rinse clean.
A hot maintenance wash with a dishwasher cleaner (or with the machine empty except for a cleaning tablet) removes grease and limescale from the internal pipes, pump and spray arm jets before they build into blockages. Once a month prevents a £120 call-out.
The spray arm holes can become blocked with small food particles or limescale. Blocked jets mean uneven cleaning - and can lead to imbalanced water pressure that strains the circulation pump. Remove the spray arms (they twist off on most models) and rinse the holes clear with warm water.
Overloading blocks spray coverage and forces the pump to work harder. Larger items belong on the bottom rack facing inward. Glasses and cups go upside down on the top rack. Correct loading also prevents item breakage damaging the spray arms or blocking the filter.
A new noise, a leak at the door seal, items coming out with residue - these are early warning signs, not inconveniences. On a Bosch dishwasher, early diagnosis almost always means a cheap fix. Left running, secondary water damage to the cabinet or floor becomes the expensive part.
